COMPANY DESCRIPTION

SAP started in 1972 as a team of five colleagues with a desire to do something new. Together, they changed enterprise software and reinvented how business was done. Today, as a market leader in enterprise application software, we remain true to our roots. That’s why we engineer solutions to fuel innovation, foster equality and spread opportunity for our employees and customers across borders and cultures.
SAP values the entrepreneurial spirit, fostering creativity and building lasting relationships with our employees. We know that a diverse and inclusive workforce keeps us competitive and provides opportunities for all. We believe that together we can transform industries, grow economics, lift up societies and sustain our environment. Because it’s the best-run businesses that make the world run better and improve people’s lives.

SAP Concur is seeking a creative technologist and disruptor to the antiquated and un-modern, for our Expense R&D development group.  We are looking for ego-less leaders of innovation and growth that will help drive forward-thinking solutions that allow our organization to be The Best Run by using ingenuity and engineering to tackle complexity.  SAP Concur’s Expense Management Platform is growing rapidly, has huge global potential and has set aggressive goals for 2020 around that potential.

Continuous improvement and change will be constant.  Technologies come and go, but the best engineering practices develop deep ruts in a strong engineering culture.  We value curiosity, experimentation, adaptability, deep technical acumen and an engineering approach over current knowledge of particular language, tool or methodology.  That being said, here are some of the current tools, technologies and methodologies we have our hands on (to satisfy the search engines)… Technologies such as AWS, containerization, Kubernetes, Java, Spring, REST APIs, sql/nosql db, scripting, unit testing, ATDD, performance testing,  CI/CD, Jenkins and so on. As a key member of an agile development team, you will design, develop, test, deliver and monitor 24/7 services and functionality of Concur’s core application.  You will focus on quality, high availability, scalability and best practices to iterate on improving delivery and enhancing customer value faster.

In the first 12 months, you will be:

  • Diving into a highly collaborative environment:  We must work across groups and organizations to ensure we are delivering real value to our customers and offering them the best experiences possible.  We work in an agile environment with a focus on efficiency and responsiveness for our customers sake.
  • Transforming our legacy platform into a micro-service based architecture: We are moving our product into a more modular/flexible solution and are constantly evaluating and experimenting to find the right tools that will ensure success.
  • Owning the software lifecycle from design to delivery:  We run small teams with a purpose, so that our engineers have full visibility and end-to-end ownership of the project, including full-stack development.
  • Creating an extremely scalable platform: As we deliver our new services we must ensure they scale to meet the growing needs of SAP Concurs ever expanding customer base, but yet stay flexible and maintainable.

In order to accomplish this, you will need:

  • As an Individual:  Have a result driven personality, self-motivated, high enthusiasm, energy, confidence with a personal high-bar of quality and most importantly have a sense of humor.
  • Be an Awesome Team Member:  Have and Engineering and Craftsmanship attitude and promotes a culture of collaboration, learning, growth and experimentation that enhances our delivery.  Is a great communicator verbally and written and values well-crafted documentation.  Has excellent judgment and reasoning.
  • Experience with programming languages: Have proficiency with Java and open source frameworks (i.e. Spring, etc) building RESTful services.
  • Ability to create/maintain micro-services:  Have proficiency with tools and lifecycle of micro-services using containerization.
  • Experience storing/retrieving data:  Have proficiency with database technologies, including knowledge of SQL. Ideally have a solid understanding of storage concepts/technology, i.e. NoSQL/SQL databases.
  • Event Processing:  Ideally understand event processing/messaging, i.e. Kafka/Rabbit MQ, as well as logging, auditing and metrics, i.e. ElasticSearch/Kibana/Splunk, Hadoop/Tableau.

  • DevOps:  Ideally understand application monitoring and code instrumentation (logging, JMX), code build/deploy, i.e. Kubernetes, Docker, Puppet, as well as infrastructure, i.e. AWS, etc.

Job Requirements:
