About the Team
The Gardener on Metal team is a brand-new team currently in founding. We are a mix of backend and frontend software engineers and infrastructure experts with knowledge about network, Linux, Kubernetes and virtualization. The team is distributed over Munich and Walldorf. There is still a lot of shaping to be done and we would like you to be part of it.

Gardener on Metal - What it is all about
Gardener is an open source Kubernetes management solution by SAP. Gardener supports deploying Kubernetes clusters on different hyperscalers and proprietary virtualization platforms. Gardener follows an inception model: Managing Kubernetes with Kubernetes. With Gardener on Metal we bring this concept to the bare metal: manage physical servers and network infrastructure with Kubernetes to run Kubernetes clusters on top – providing them to SAP developers and customers. The classical virtualization layer is replaced by Kubernetes‘ cloud native approach. We use KVM (QEMU and firecracker) for sandboxing applications of different tenants, leveraging Kubernetes as a control plane.
