Automation Engineering ensures that SAP NS2’s services, both internally and externally-visible systems, have reliability and uptime appropriate to customers’ needs in addition to a fast rate of improvement while maintaining an ever-watchful eye on security, capacity, and performance.
Automation Engineers are also creators of engineering and systems development. Much of our work focuses on optimizing existing systems, building secure cloud infrastructure, and eliminating work through automation. As Automation Engineers are responsible for the broad picture of how our various SaaS and PaaS products relate to each other, we use a breadth of tools and approaches to solve a broad spectrum of problems. Post-mortem and proactive identification of potential issues factor into iterative improvement.

RESPONSIBILITIES
Collaboration with Upstream Developers:
- Actively engage and collaborate with upstream developers to identify, review, and suggest enhancements or modifications to the existing codebase. This will involve a deep understanding of the upstream code, as well as the specific needs and demands of our customer base.
- Provide feedback and technical recommendations to ensure the delivery of high-quality code, aiming for performance optimization, scalability, and seamless integration with our existing systems.
Shared Service Environment Support:
- Oversee and maintain the optimal performance of our shared service platforms, including GitLab, Vault, Identity, and SFTP. Regularly monitor service health, ensuring uptime, reliability, and swift resolution of any disruptions or issues. Provide end-user support by addressing queries, troubleshooting problems, and offering guidance on best practices. Collaborate with internal teams to ensure these platforms are integrated seamlessly, and continuously assess the need for updates, patches, or enhancements to maintain the highest standard of service availability and security for all stakeholders.
- Actively participate in internal and external audits pertaining to the shared service environment. Collaborate with auditors to provide necessary documentation, logs, and evidence showcasing the adherence to industry standards and best practices. In the event of any audit findings or discrepancies, take lead responsibility to design and execute remediation strategies, ensuring the shared service environment remains compliant and secure, addressing all vulnerabilities and areas of improvement in a timely manner.
- Engage proactively in the Problem Management process for services within the Shared Services environment, ensuring that incidents are thoroughly analyzed, documented, and addressed. Take an active role in conducting Root Cause Analysis (RCA) for any service disruptions or issues, collaborating with cross-functional teams to pinpoint underlying problems. Ensure that corrective actions are implemented to prevent recurrence, and share findings and insights with relevant stakeholders to foster continuous improvement in the service delivery and infrastructure robustness.
QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or equivalent practical experience.
Experience with the following technologies
Python, Terraform, Ansible, Concourse CI/CD, Vault, Identify Management
Experience with Unix / Linux operating system internals and administration (e.g., filesystems, inodes, system calls, hardening) and networking (e.g., TCP / IP, routing, DNS, network topologies, SDN).
Preferred qualifications:
Expertise in designing, analyzing and troubleshooting large-scale distributed systems.
Ability to debug and optimize code and automate routine tasks.
Systematic problem-solving approach coupled with strong communication skills and a sense of ownership and drive.

Compensation Range Transparency: SAP believes the value of pay transparency contributes towards an honest and supportive culture and is a significant step toward demonstrating SAP’s commitment to pay equity. SAP provides the annualized compensation range inclusive of base salary and variable incentive target for the career level applicable to the posted role. The targeted combined range for this position is $102,800-214,400 USD. The actual amount to be offered to the successful candidate will be within that range, dependent upon the key aspects of each case which may include education, skills, experience, scope of the role, location, etc. as determined through the selection process. Any SAP variable incentive includes a targeted dollar amount and any actual payout amount is dependent on company and personal performance.
