SAP started in 1972 as a team of five colleagues with a desire to do something new. Together, they changed enterprise software and reinvented how business was done. Today, as a market leader in enterprise application software, we remain true to our roots. That’s why we engineer solutions to fuel innovation, foster equality and spread opportunity for our employees and customers across borders and cultures.

SAP values the entrepreneurial spirit, fostering creativity and building lasting relationships with our employees. We know that a diverse and inclusive workforce keeps us competitive and provides opportunities for all. We believe that together we can transform industries, grow economics, lift up societies and sustain our environment. Because it’s the best-run businesses that make the world run better and improve people’s lives.

SAP Security Research investigates data anonymization methods such as differential privacy and synthetic data to protect personal identifiable information to enable the use of data in the context of machine learning and data analytics. Differential privacy has already been adopted in the IT industry and provides a promising way to anonymize data with formal privacy guarantees. Our goal is the development of differentially private anonymization methods for new types of data as well as improving the trade-off between privacy and utility.

We offer an internship (full time) or working student (part time) position in the highly relevant area of data privacy. To fill this position, we are looking for a motivated and self-driven student to assist us with the following tasks:

  • Develop and improve new data anonymization methods
  • Build machine learning models to evaluate performance and privacy
  • Present and communicate key results and insights from our research to internal audiences
  • Exact topics to work on vary over time and are subject to individual discussion. Some topics can provide a basis for a subsequent Master's thesis which we can discuss during the internship. The duration is flexible, but ideally 6 months.

  • Master’s student at university or university of applied sciences
  • Preferred field(s) of study: Computer Science, Statistics, or related field with strong CS background
  • Computer skills: Programming in Python; experience with ML libraries (e.g. TensorFlow, PyTorch, scikit-learn)
  • Language skills: Fluency in spoken and written English, German is a plus
  • Soft skills: Good presentation skills and ability to communicate accurately and proactively
  • Others: Proficiency in data science and knowledge of statistics are helpful

Your set of application documents should contain a cover letter, a resume in table form, school leaving certificates, current university transcript of records, copies of any academic degrees already earned, and if available, references from former employers (including internships). Please remember to describe your skills in foreign languages and computer programs / programming languages.
