ROLE DESCRIPTION

SAP's Global Corporate Affairs (GCA) unit is charged with protecting and enhancing the reputation of

SAP among internal and external audiences. To that end, GCA strives to position SAP as the world’s

leading business software solution provider, recognized thought leader, responsible corporate citizen,

as well as employer, business partner, vendor, and investment of choice. In addition, the

communications function supports sales of SAP software solutions and products, informs employees

about strategy, performance and execution and drives employee engagement.

GCA programs are geared towards influencing SAP’s primary audiences -- customers, employees,

government officials, and partners either …

• indirectly via influencers such as media (print, online, broadcast), bloggers, industry analysts,

• or directly as in the case of our communication with employees, managers and government

representatives.

“Customers” of SAP’s communications function are therefore both the internal stakeholders

representing SAP’s business (Customer Success), our employees, and the relevant external

influencers.

In that context, the Integrated Communications functions within GCA are responsible for planning and

driving the execution of communications activities across these multiple audiences at Market Unit level,

where they support the Customer Success organization. They report to the Regional Head of Customer

Success Communications.

 

EXPECTATIONS AND TASKS

The Expert in this function ….

• Is part of a virtual regional team spanning 13 Northern Europe countries

• Leads a small team of communications specialists, interns or fellows

• Has an agreed selection of GCA’s communications responsibilities for programs and channels

for the assigned MUs and/or for special projects within GCA community

• Is a true business partner and a trusted advisor for his/her stakeholders

• Leads media relations (pitching SAP story, building intimacy with a strong journalists and

bloggers network, managing a press agency) for the Market Units

• Has employee communications responsibilities (building channels, creating and sharing

content, and reaching out to audiences, involvement with organizing and supporting employee

events, coffee corners and CSR initiatives).

• Drives the executive communications for the Market Units Managing Director(s) and their

leadership teams (preparing talking points and briefing books, providing content for external or

internal keynotes).

• Is a good steward of his or her budget• Is working closely with team members and sister-organizations

(marketing, government relations, CSR) to support cross-regional and corporate activities and

topics.

• Contributes to elevating SAP’s CSR initiatives to existing and new media to support the brand

objective.

 

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE

Media relations:

• Create thought leadership strategy for awareness in the media ensuring the overarching SAP

priorities are adhered to, to deliver a strong rolling volume of media coverage and message

penetration.

• Develop a media relation strategy that demonstrates and showcases how SAP delivers the

intelligent enterprise and helps its customers to become best-run businesses

• Build and strengthen a network of regional/national media contacts

• Develop a story pipeline that strengthens SAP’s public profile about business strategy,

innovation and supports the Brand Narrative.

• Build strong collaboration with Marketing to leverage and amplify the best SAP customer stories

• Engage and manage external agencies, providing clear direction and focus to ensure alignment

to global and local messages and ensure message and media training for industry and product

spokespeople

Executive communications:

• Provide communications counsel to local Managing Director(s) and MUs leadership teams, build

leadership profiles and strengthen GCA value proposition

• Play an active role is developing GCA in the EMEA North region working with regional GCA

leadership and the GCA team

Employee communications

• Develop an internal communications plan and provide employee engagement, attract talent and

create endorsement

• Manage internal communications that focuses on consistent and engaging messaging for

employees working strongly with HR and local business leaders based on the company

business plan and company vision to create consistent key messages

Other

• Ensure crises are managed, coordinated, and escalated to region and Global Communications

leaderswhere necessary

 

WORK EXPERIENCE: 10+ years

• Experience in media relations strategy

• Experience in design and implementation of communications concepts and plans

• Experience in communications to more than one influencer type (media, bloggers, analyst,

governments officials, employee communications)

• Experience in story-telling and copy-writing

• Experienced in handling confidential material

• Experience in providing communications counsel to executives

 

EDUCATION AND QUALIFICATION / SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES:

• French is either your native language or you have excellent French writing and editing skills

• Your English is fluent

• College and/or University Degree / Grande Ecole desired (or equivalent education)

• International experience in a matrix environment a plus• Professional communicator with strong soft skills

• Self-motivated and team oriented

• Hands-on, flexible and able to cope with stress

• Understanding of IT market, editorial experience a big plus

• Ability to transform corporate strategy into powerful messages for various communications

disciplines.
