About the Role

The Industry Engineering Manager leads and manages a team of Industry specialist. He/she has primary responsibility for the development of their team, thought leadership in one or few industries and manage supply chain of selling from demand generation to customer success. He / She will be tasked with coaching and developing a fully engaged and respected team that maintains a high state of readiness in creating vision for the customer, leads end to end engagements and creates compelling business cases for digital transformation. In addition, he / she will effectively balance skills and resource allocation to best support pipeline and revenue attainment including deal management and personal leadership for the most important and strategic opportunities in their  market unit.

As a people manager, he / she will be responsible for supporting the success of not only their direct reports, but also the success of all employees within the larger team they are a part of, by helping to identify development opportunities and supporting team members to achieve their goals. He / She is expected to know about the members of their extended team and share insights with their peer managers. He / she should look for opportunities to coach and recognize employees directly and provide timely feedback

The Industry Engineering Manager leads and mentors their team and develops their team members’ industry and sales skills to optimize team performance. He / she must possess strong solution selling and value-based selling skills. In many cases, he / she may also play the role of an industry expert and is responsible for ensuring the market unit’s readiness for adequately positioning SAP’s story in that industry.


•            Understand the available expertise and potential knowledge gaps that exist in their team. Identify areas of development for each team member and work with each to define and execute a tailored learning plan. Foster an atmosphere of continuous learning and improvement.

•            Lead their team to consistently deliver relevant, impactful, and compelling messaging in every interaction of in the customer lifecycle

•            Monitor the development activities for their team members towards their industry and solution learning goals.

•            At least once per quarter, provide feedback and coaching to their team members after dry-runs, demos, and presentations to help them to continuously improve their selling, consulting, and domain skills.

•            Provide regular formal oral and written feedback to their team members during SAP Talk discussions using SuccessFactors tools and applications.

•            Propel all their team members toward accomplishment of team/regional revenue targets. Involve each team member in at least one deal per quarter.

•            Help develop the larger presales organization through leadership of a Solution Hub which provides enablement and a voice of the field to solution management.

•            Represent their team in management reviews and provide updates / highlights / measures to indicate progression towards goals of the organization

Industry Readiness Tasks:

•            Be a thought leader in one/two industries by authoring industry focused content or lead / contribute to thought leadership projects in the focus industries

•            Engage with key strategic consulting firms to enable them on SAP’s Point of view on the industries

•            Understand and drive SAP’s vision for industry cloud

•            Maintain a high-level knowledge of SAP’s solution suite

•            Understand the key competitors and ensure team members understand and leverage SAP’s unique value wedges in every customer interaction.

•            Build key relationships and maintain a network of people in the Industry Business Unit (IBU) organization

•            Support marketing events in assigned areas of specialization where appropriate.


•            15+ years of relevant presales experience

•            Proficiency in SAP’s portfolio

•            Excellent communication and networking skills with C-suite customer audience

•            Leadership, drive for results and “can do” attitude
