GMP team is a part of Global Cloud Services (GCS) organization and the Platform and Services (PSO) department. GMP team is responsible for operations and management of SAP internal GMP IaaS platform, which runs PaaS/SaaS solutions from various Cloud LoBs (line of businesses). GMP is the largest and the most critical productive IaaS platforms in different SAP DCs world-wide. The most critical goal for GMP team is to safeguard GMP IaaS platform to have zero-outages and minimum of MTTRs.

 

Role:

As a Cloud Compute Ops and Monitoring Engineer of GMP platform you are responsible for compute monitoring, operations and management (Hypervisor and Bare Metal) within GMP IAAS platform. You are responsible for the monitoring lifecycle, for the capacity management, for the vendor support and complete lifecycle of the compute area. You support meeting the SLAs and MTTR targets, driving implementation, quality improvement, optimization, automation and execution of the compute management processes. You will also develop API-driven monitoring services based on established open-source technologies such as Prometheus, Grafana, Elasticsearch, Kibana, Kafka and Kubernetes. You will contribute to different upstream open-source projects and help to maintain our own open-source initiatives. As a Cloud Compute Ops and Monitoring IT technology Consultant, you will work in an international and distributed team with highly skilled people and co-innovate with other organisational units on operating SAP’s Intelligent Enterprise cloud services.

 

Requirements:

  • Strong experience in Linux system administration.

  • Experience/Knowhow in virtualization technologies: VMWare and Xen.

  • Strong background in configuration management automation: Chef, Puppet, Ansible.

  • Experience in building and operations of complex monitoring tools and infrastructures with Grafana, Prometheus, Elasticsearch, Nagios, HPE One View, Syslog etc.

  • Hands-on experience with container technologies like Docker and/or Kubernetes is a plus.

  • Excellent programming skills. Preferred programming languages: Python, Go.

  • HPE, Lenovo, Cisco, DELL or other Hyper-converged Infrastructure (HCI) hardware certifications are an advantage.

 

Work Experience:

  • 5+ years of diverse working experience in IT infrastructure as Linux system Engineer and/or DevOps/SRE Engineer with focus on monitoring and automation.

  • Proven experience in programming with Python and/or Go.

  • 20% max travel required.
