PURPOSE AND OBJECTIVE

The role will be responsible for all field legal issues for the Regulated Industries market unit in the North America Region, including Sales to the U.S. Federal Government, Aerospace and Defense Industries, State and Local Government Agencies, Higher Education, Healthcare and Public Utilities. Reporting to the Assistant General Counsel – Regulated Industries, the candidate will work collaboratively with approximately 5-7 professionals in support of On Premise and Cloud business.

The key accountabilities of the role are to:

• Participate in the overall strategy of the RI Market Unit as an integral member of the RI Legal team;
• Effectively structure, draft, and negotiate complex commercial agreements including enterprise software-as-a-service agreements, professional services agreements, data processing agreements, and non-disclosure agreements in support of sales teams;
• Support SAP’s corporate business goals and objectives by serving as a true business partner, balancing legal risks appropriately against the commercial objectives;
• Ensure the highest standards of integrity, ethics, and behavior;
• Promote a strong culture for the practice of preventative law with the legal function by identifying compliance and business risk and addressing appropriate training needs;
• Foster a philosophy and culture of seeking innovative solutions to legal and business issues; and

Given the nature of SAP’s business and the role of the Cloud LOBs and market units, the role is responsible for the following key deliverables:

Business Partnering and Legal Support – coordinating provision for appropriate legal advice and support on data protection, privacy, intellectual property, competition law, regulatory matters and compliance amongst others. Given the specialized nature of the RI business, the role will require knowledge of, or the ability to develop, a strong working understanding of contracting practices prevalent in the Regulated Industries business, particularly those of the U.S. Federal Government, State and Local Government, and their political subdivisions:

• Commercial and Contract Management - overseeing advice, support, and negotiation on all contractual matters.
• Risk Management – participating in/coordinating appropriate review and management of legal risks.

EXPERIENCE

• 5-7 years of appropriate experience
• English fluency

EDUCATION

• JD and admission to practice law in any of the United States or District of Columbia

PREFERRED LOCATION

• Washington D.C. or Newtown Square, PA preferred, although position may also be 100% remote
