We are SAP’s Procurement UX Team, part of the ISBN organization. Our organizational goal is to deliver procurement products that meet our customers’ needs and expectations. The UX team is a globally distributed team based in Palo Alto, Bengaluru, Europe and Brazil. Our team’s goal is to bring consumer-like ease to large-scale enterprise products. We are a team of passionate UX colleagues who aims are passionate about delighting users with meaningful user experience and reducing complexity. 

Our UX team in Palo Alto is looking for a Director of Design Systems, to manage and grow a global team of Interaction Designers, Visual Designers and Content Strategists

 

Summary & Role Information:

The Director of Design Systems should have a systems and framework thinking mindset for UX design, with compelling leadership skills, to own and deliver the design system for the Procurement products. Duties and responsibilities include but not limited to:

  • Manage and grow a global team distributed across multiple locations & geographies
  • Advocate design systems to product designers, stakeholders, peers, and the wider organization
  • Interface with application designers and leads to capture requirements, prioritization, set expectations and track dependancies
  • Manage the end-to-end project backlog, priority, and schedule for the design system team
  • Introduce a Scrum & Agile mindset within the design system team, with backlogs, priorities, burn-down, ceremonies etc.
  • Interface with the SAP Design team, and other Design Systems teams to create a holistic strategy and roadmap for Procurement Design System
  • Partner with UX research team to ensure effective research is planned for and conducted for design systems
  • Evangelize Atomic design system or similar principles
  • Place individuals in roles and assignments that contribute to their personal and career development
  • Hold yourself and your team accountable for setting and meeting departmental goals
  • Inspire and gain the commitment of others towards the vision, mission, values, and organizational goals

 

Experience / Role Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Art, Design, HCI, Interaction, and/or equivalent practical experience.
  • 15 years of total experience, including 5+ in an leadership role creating strategy and designing products.
  • Prior experience managing design system teams
  • Experience working with designers, product managers, and engineers.
  • Experience integrating research programs throughout the life cycle, including experience with digital, global products.
  • Experience managing scrum and agile teams
  • Deep technical knowledge of both interaction and visual design skills
  • Solid communication skills, with the ability to articulate positions and advocate designs.
  • Excellent managerial and operational skills.
