SAP Development Learning is part of the SAP Learning Organization. Our mission is to create opportunity through learning and development for all. We are currently undergoing a transformation from a fully federated model for development learning topics to a more centralized approach. For this, our aspiration is to create the conditions in which 100% of people in our target audience (primarily the Development job family) are voluntarily learning. To achieve this outcome, we are streamlining our portfolio to create gravity around strategic topics important for our development units’ success and establishing stronger connections to career growth for individuals. Our programs include formal training on topics like AI, DevOps, and Product Management (to name a few) as well as building connections to informal learning channels through the Labs network, DevX, StackOverflow, and our L1 learning representative network. We also drive initiatives to understand the skills across development to support our mission to tailor, target and scale strategic learning offers.


The Head of Cloud Product Upskilling will be responsible for stewarding in an era of cloud native product thinking across the SAP’s entire portfolio and will necessarily have thoughtful opinions about the best way for SAP to achieve this transformation. The leader will be responsible for innovating in engagement models to bring not only world class instruction to the organization, but also for the creation of excellent peer to peer learning opportunities, driving simulation and hands on learning, and partnering with local teams to deliver a transformative change in day-to-day team skilling. In addition, the leader will be expected to establish innovative partnerships with external training institutions where appropriate to deliver excellent content to upskill our workforce. The leader will be responsible for coordinating across Development Learning and SAP Learning to ensure content is created and delivered from the best possible organization, with the same message and principles applied, yet with minimal duplication. A successful candidate will be a critical driver of SAP’s workforce transformation with initial focus on topics integral to user centered product development including Data Literacy, Machine Learning, product analytics, enterprise product strategy and product management, and the multiple facets of user experience including but not limited to design, content, performance.


Job Description and Key Responsibilities  


  • Manage learning program lifecycle from concept to impact exploring multiple options to deliver results for the business and employees
  • Strategically prioritize development learning initiatives and formats that will maximize learning impact on the Cloud product upskilling topics with available resources.
  • Identify measurable business impact metrics for programs within the portfolio aligned to metrics selected across the Learning organization which include but are not limited to reach and adoption as well as metrics selected across the wider Development organization which include but are not limited to developer experience and productivity, increased SAP customer satisfaction, and improved employee engagement. 
  • Work with Development Leaders across T&I, PE, IES and others to define expected skill proficiencies for each topic / role / level / unit and to create prescriptive guidance to target and tailor learning on Cloud product topics based on those expectations
  • Drive consistency for learners and gravity around strategic topics through strengthened partnerships with informal learning through peer-to-peer, communities of practice and relevant teams e.g. DevX, the Labs Network, Stack@SAP, L1 Learning representatives, etc.
  • Collaborate across SAP learning with leaders, learning program owners, trainers, instructional designers, shared services to advise on people, processes, content and tools needed to deliver exceptional value from development learning with no/minimal duplication from other areas and clear accountability for how we will achieve our shared goals.
  • Demonstrate thought leadership and identify key trends affecting training, education and other technical opportunities to ensure we offer world-class learning to SAP’s technical talent
  • Build a world class team and nurture talent across the development learning organizations
  • Pioneer new methods to deliver continuous skill development at scale across SAP’s global development organization
  • Continuously incorporate outside perspectives into SAP’s understanding of ‘what good looks like’ for various roles. Translate this into continuous updates to our programs.
  • Ensure operational aspects such as vendor selection, onboarding and works council requirements are met efficiently.
  • Support strategic initiatives as they arise.




  • A successful candidate must possess strong, demonstrable experience in at least one of the following: User Centered Design processes, UX research, AI / ML, Product management or product growth  
  • Track record for driving concepts end-to-end from idea through to execution
  • Proven ability to work through high levels of ambiguity and create clarity in complex topics. 
  • Experience influencing and executing change in a large, highly matrixed organization
  • Ability to communicate complex facts or cases clearly and persuasively to different audiences and organization levels; ideally experience influencing, presenting to and partnering with Senior Management, Board members.
  • Experience of building credible, multifaceted learning journeys for the different roles in the product development teams
  • Highly credible in the SAP product development community; Able to communicate seamlessly with developers, product managers, leaders and our customer success teams
  • Ability to influence and build a consensus
  • Has a passion for the topic of learning and an understanding of the different models to deliver understanding and hands on mastery of given subject matter


Ideal Candidate:

  • 10+ years’ experience leading high performing organizations and business transformation, ideally with a focus on enablement and learning
  • Experience in leading a cross discipline, global team
  • Understanding of the SAP development organization and learning challenges relevant in the multinational, enterprise context
  • Recognized leader in product industry; experience leading successful product strategy, UX, product growth or decision science initiatives
  • Experience in enterprise software context
  • Demonstrated autonomous organizational and analytical skills
