The Software Mobile Design Engineer will work on TripIt’s Android native mobile app team to help build elegant, efficient user interfaces for our mobile app

Responsibilities:

  • Write mobile code for Android platforms including native apps, wearables, widgets, and extensions, translating visual designs into high quality code.
  • Unit-testing code for robustness, including edge cases, usability, and general reliability.
  • Work closely with, and incorporate feedback from, product management, UX designers, and back-end engineers.
  • Rapidly fix bugs and solve problems.
  • Dive into and evaluate new and unfamiliar technology.
  • Pro-actively look for ways to improve the TripIt end-user experience.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science or related field and 3-5 years of prior software development experience (or Master's degree and 2-4 years of experience).
  • At least 1 year of experience developing native Android apps with Android studio.
  • Strong expertise with object-oriented programming – Java required (Kotlin a plus).
  • Experience integrating with REST APIs and JSON.
  • Understanding of Android SDK (familiarity with Gradle a plus).
  • Experience with third-party libraries and APIs.
  • Experience documenting and evaluating technical designs and participating in peer code reviews.
  • User-centric focus on creating high-quality mobile UI experiences.
  • Bonus: Have published at least one original Android app.
