Global Job - Summary

The focus of an SAP Business Process Architect's expertise is typically on the planning and design phases of an implementation of an SAP business application suite.  Nowadays SAP Architects need to be familiar with the Digital Economy / Transformation and the top technology trends enabling it where Its organizations transition into hybrid system landscape with a mix of on premise platforms, private cloud solutions and public cloud services. Therefor Business Architecture expertise could also be leveraged on strategic corporate initiatives such as business process improvement initiatives, establishing internal centers of expertise or developing ongoing architectural governance processes.  The engagement model of an Architect is not strictly limited to the planning/design phases but may also span the build and test as well as the operations phases to ensure proper implementation and operationalization of the business solutions.


Focus of Business Process Architects

On the basis of the client's scope, requirements and business strategy, a Business Process Architect is able to

Review client as-is processes and create the high-level to-be process model

Design detailed industry-specific / corporate customer to-be processes and the high-level solution design based on process requirements, application, and system landscape.

Business Process Architects evaluate customer requirements, map them to business processes, functional and solution architectures and ensure a proper implementation from a solution architecture point of view. For this they:

  •   Design detailed end-to-end industry-specific / corporate customer to-be processes
  •   Identify the appropriate end-to-end solution portfolio options and recommendations
  •   Identify solution gaps and develop gap closure options
  •   Design the end-to-end functional landscape and solution design, including the functional integration points, applicable standards, and governance


Key Areas of Responsibility and Tasks

The Principal Business Process Architect role is an active role that is customer focused.

The position requires a combination of strategic and comprehensive practical experience.



Independently lead or execute complex assignments and deliverables

Coach project and team members on architectural topics

Demonstrate active leadership dependent on specific project role

Manage diverse expectations


Advisory / Delivery


Analyze and validate the client's business and IT requirements

Define the high-level end-to-end industry-specific / corporate customer business processes

Architect the end-to-end functional landscape and solution design to support the to-be business processes and business


Provide direction to the implementation teams and work as intermediary across the local, near shore and offshore delivery streams

Lead the architectural governance function/processes

Lead solution architecture related project quality management tasks


Support value tracking and reporting

Provide Value Delivery for the customer


Sales Support

Support business development and license & services sales in alignment with SAP Service Strategy


Thought Leadership / Innovation

Lead and contribute as an expert to related KM community

Identify opportunities for service innovation Actively follow and share developments / trends regarding new SAP and complementary partner offerings, industry trends and other topic areas relevant for the solution architecture domain

Experience & Language Requirements

Work Experience:

8+ years of experience in process implementation in leadership and customer facing roles related to solution architecture topics

Specialized Expertise:

Expert in (Digital) Business Transformation topics: BPM, Enterprise Architecture, Organizational Change Management, Value Management, Project/Program Management, Innovation Management, Strategic Roadmaps, Cloud Transformation, TCO, Digital Transformation, Internet of Things (IoT) etc.

Expert in at least one additional industry, theme or business topic

Expert knowledge in functional integration and cross-solution issues

Expertise in at least one SAP Cloud Solution (e.g. SuccessFactors, Fieldglass, Ariba or Hybris)

Proficient in Business Process Management

Has clear understanding of information requirements, information flows and information usage within various business operations

Expert in applying methods of process and solution architecture modeling based on SAP and non-SAP solutions in one or more industries

Managerial Expertise

Has comprehensive track record and experience with complex implementation projects, including the coordination and decision facilitation of process and architecture related issues

Functional coordination of teams (internal and external)

Capable to effectively moderate between Client and SAP, Business, and IT

SAP Specific Expertise

Overall SAP Corporate Strategy and SAP Product Strategy Knowledge

Knowledge of the latest SAP Strategy and their related pillars including the capability to discuss this with the customer

SAP Product Knowledge

Advanced knowledge of:

SAP Product Portfolio (on premise and cloud solutions, S/4HANA) / SAP standard solution and service offerings

SAP Next Generation solutions and services (e.g., S/4HANA, Fiori (Mobility, UX), Cloud)

Industry Solutions (in related industry area)

SAP Product Roadmap (in related industry area)

Deep understanding of SAP's solution and service offerings including packaged solutions

Methodologies & Standards

Business Process Management Methodologies
