Role

IT Technology Services Specialists shape the next level of ECS offerings for multiple scenarios within the company. You will join a team of motivated individuals in a well-established broader group of automation experts. 
 
What you’ll do

The Automation Reliability and Engineering (ARE) team at SAP ECS is essential to the reliability, scalability, and innovation of our systems and applications. As a Senior Lead, you will take on a pivotal role in guiding and managing a team of engineers, ensuring successful execution of key initiatives, and aligning team goals with SAP’s strategic priorities. In addition to providing technical direction, you will focus on team growth, process optimization, and cross-functional collaboration. This position offers the opportunity to shape SAP’s automation strategy, drive impactful results, and work with cutting-edge technologies to enhance our services.

Responsibilities:

  • Oversee a team of engineers by setting clear goals, providing constructive feedback, and fostering a culture of growth, innovation, and continuous learning.
  • Encourage best practices, professional development, and career growth within the team.
  • Ensure that the team’s goals and initiatives align with ECS overall business objectives. Collaborate with senior management to set strategic priorities and translate these into actionable plans for the team.
  • Cultivate a high-performance culture where team members are empowered and accountable for their work. Implement metrics and standards to assess team performance and continuously improve outcomes.
  • Work closely with stakeholders from various functions, including product, infrastructure, and operations, to ensure seamless integration and alignment across teams. Act as a primary point of contact for cross-departmental communication, addressing challenges proactively.
  • Create, standardize, and optimize processes to ensure efficient, high-quality delivery of automation solutions. Emphasize the importance of agile methodologies and DevOps practices to increase the speed and reliability of deployments.
  • Assess project requirements, prioritize tasks, and allocate resources effectively to maximize productivity and team efficiency. Anticipate potential risks and implement strategies to mitigate them.
  • Lead initiatives to implement new technologies, tools, and practices that enhance system resilience and performance. Encourage a proactive approach to problem-solving and advocate for continuous improvement across all automation processes.
  • Define and establish meaningful Service Level Indicators (SLIs) and Service Level Objectives (SLOs) to measure reliability, performance, and customer satisfaction. Regularly review metrics to identify opportunities for improvement and to drive data-informed decision-making.
  • Serve as a senior technical resource within the team, providing insights, resolving complex technical challenges, and setting a high standard for technical excellence.
  • Provide regular updates to senior leadership on the progress of key initiatives, team achievements, and any roadblocks encountered. Contribute to strategic planning discussions by offering insights into automation trends, resource needs, and potential growth areas.

What you bring

  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in computer science, Software Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent work experience.
  • Proven expertise in SAP Technologies (SAP NetWeaver certification preferred).
  • Extensive experience with non-NetWeaver technologies: BOBJ, SAP Mobile, Convergent Charging, OpenText, HANA XSA, and more.
  • Demonstrated experience in leadership and team management, with a track record of successfully guiding teams to meet strategic goals.
  • Exceptional problem-solving and root cause analysis skills, with the ability to manage complex issues under pressure.
  • Demonstrated leadership and team management experience, with a strong track record of driving team performance and engagement.
  • Strategic thinking and problem-solving abilities, with the capacity to manage complex issues under pressure and implement innovative solutions.
  • Strong project management skills, with experience in prioritizing and allocating resources effectively across multiple initiatives.
  • Proficiency with cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or GCP, and containerization tools like Docker and Kubernetes.
  • Advanced scripting and automation skills using languages such as Python, Shell, or similar.
