What you'll do

 

We are looking for experienced developers to join us and contribute towards our open source initiative - Project Gardener [https://gardener.cloud]. As a Developer,  you will be responsible in shaping the future of SAP Business Technology Platform, which is the underlay for all SAP Cloud solutions. With the core work centered around our Kubernetes Cluster service offering, you will be responsible for the following activities:

  • Managing machine/nodes of the cluster across different cloud providers via machine controller manager and driving the community to adopt it for different providers like AWS/GCP/Azure.
  • Building a highly available etcd with multi-node deployment and backup-restore capabilities to ensure cloud-native service and applications to run on top.
  • Optimizing the control plane of a Kubernetes cluster by creating innovative designs to manage resources and through resource utilization like cpu/memory/disk and n/wing components.  
  • Guiding/evangelizing the open-source community in consuming Gardener by presenting your work in conferences like KubeCon and others local meet-ups.
  • If you are passionate about system engineering and enjoy developing distributed systems at scale, we have some unique and complex challenges that can help enhance your learning in this domain.
  • With this role, you are not limited to only contributing to the solution but will be allowed to take ownership in driving the tasks until adoption.
  • You will help shape the solution in conjunction with contributors from SAP and the open source community that consumes Gardener. We emphasize teamwork and open-source working culture of consumption, trust and contributing back to the community.

 

What you bring

 

  • Masters/Bachelors in Computer Science with 3+ years of relevant experience
  • Strong knowledge and grasp of atleast one scripting language and one programming language (Go preferred).
  • Working knowledge of Unix/Linux internals.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills to apply the right patterns to the domain.
  • Excellent understanding of data structures and algorithms to consume the best fit for a given problem.
  •  Exposure to the infrastructure layers provided by one or more hyperscalar like (AWS/Azure/GCP/Openstack/VMware etc. ) is added advantage.

 

Meet your team:

 

The Kubernetes core team is adopting the Kubernetes open-source system for automating deployment, scaling, and management of containerized SAP solutions and business applications. Evolving and enhancing SAP’s open source project “Gardener” https://gardener.cloud as SAP’s way to provide a homogeneous and universal Kubernetes-based container management is the key deliverable of this team, in close collaboration with the other teams in other SAP locations. Project “Gardener” provides solutions to run and orchestrate Kubernetes clusters on public cloud, hybrid or SAP owned infrastructures for a variety of enterprise use cases
