JOB DESCRIPTION 

The SAP Global Partner Marketing team is seeking a Chief of Staff to work directly for, and partner with the SVP of Global Partner Marketing. This team has accountability for driving globally available marketing strategy to support SAP’s ecosystem, including core ‘To’, ‘Through’ and ‘With’ routes to joint marketing with our Partners.

 

As Chief of Staff, the person will be a key player in helping shape the global partner marketing organization, define its culture, drive excellence in operations, and help it exceed its objectives. This role provides a highly motivated individual the opportunity to see the business end-to-end, get exposure to executives at many levels, and to learn a tremendous amount in a short period of time as they develop their career.

 

The Chief of Staff will lead the organization in communications, day-to-day operations, and the rhythm of the business. The individual in this role will be required to think holistically and strategically about key initiatives for marketing and help drive them forward. The SAP Global Partner Marketing organization has a deep integration with the Partner Ecosystem (PES) team so understanding of the interplay between sales and marketing is critical. The individual in this role must have a collaborative mindset and be able to lead cross-functionally.

 

There are four key components of this role, and candidates will need to demonstrate competence across each:

  • Operational management
  • Rhythm of the business management
  • Communications interface
  • Cultural steward

 

Responsibilities:

  • Operational management:
    • Manage budgeting and reporting, including intersections with finance and procurement, so that marketing budgets are targeted, fully optimized, and ROI maximized.
    • Operationalize and track the headcount processes, in alignment with HR and finance, to ensure marketing has the resources needed to succeed and that recruiting is optimized.
    • Track and report global KPIs against goals for the team.
  • Rhythm of the business management:
    • Drive the rhythm for the team, including all-hands, LT meetings, leadership summits, offsites and all-up meeting cadence.
    • Ensure connection to SAP, effective participation within SAP Corporate Marketing.
    • Coordinate organizational changes including communication cascades, system changes.
  • Communications interface:
    • Drive team-wide communications using diverse channels to ensure broad understanding and alignment on focus areas and progress.
    • Integrate with broader Corporate Marketing and SAP communications channels to ensure priority messages are shared widely.
  • Cultural steward:
    • Help further the culture of trust and transparency that the team has developed by engaging in initiatives designed to improve the working experience of marketers.
    • Analyze results from people surveys and other instruments to identify opportunities to improve trust across the organization.
    • Ensure effective execution against people objectives including goal setting, development plans, training and organizational realignments.
  • Additional expectations:
    • Partner closely with other LT members in Global Partner Marketing to maximize the impact of the function.
    • Influence and build relationships with all levels and functions of the global organization.
    • Be able to successfully navigate within a highly complex organizational matrix.

 

Qualifications, experiences and skills:

  • 10+ years marketing experience in the B2B software industry, ideally in a complex enterprise organization.
  • BS required; MBA preferred.
  • Operational excellence, with experience in analytics, budget and/or forecasting.
  • Temperament to handle and appropriately deal with confidential information.
  • Proven planning experience and capabilities to manage complex business rhythms.
  • Excellent writing, presentation and communication skills, with the ability to clearly explain complex issues to a range of audiences.
  • Interest in, and EQ to support, cultural topics surrounding a large, diverse team.
  • Resourcefulness and ability to drive projects autonomously, with limited oversight.
  • Flexible and adept at navigating ambiguity and managing multiple projects, deadlines and competing priorities.
  • Experience of building strong relationships up, down, and sideways in an organization.
  • Experience managing cross-functional projects with a focus on the business outcomes.
  • Exceptional problem-solving, business judgement, and analytical skills.
  • Natural curiosity, and excitement to stay abreast with the latest technology trends and best practices.

Compensation Range Transparency: SAP believes the value of pay transparency contributes towards an honest and supportive culture and is a significant step toward demonstrating SAP’s commitment to pay equity. SAP provides the annualized compensation range inclusive of base salary and variable incentive target for the career level applicable to the posted role. The targeted combined range for this position is 99,000 - 216,000 USD. The actual amount to be offered to the successful candidate will be within that range, dependent upon the key aspects of each case which may include education, skills, experience, scope of the role, location, etc. as determined through the selection process. Any SAP variable incentive includes a targeted dollar amount and any actual payout amount is dependent on company and personal performance.
