Purpose and Objective:  
SAP America, Inc. seeks a Data Scientist at our Bellevue, Washington location to work in key functional areas across customer projects, development, and/or research projects. 

 

Expectations and Tasks: 
Within customer projects, the Data Scientist will lead small project teams or work streams in the execution of customer projects or participates in such projects as a key individual contributor. These teams execute the mathematical modeling of our customers' 
business problems, develop algorithms, data mining flows and applications to solve these problems, and help customers directly to understand and implement the results of the analysis. In this role, the Data Scientist works directly with industry experts and technology experts to translate customers' business needs into mathematical models and present and deliver a solution to the client. The Data Scientist is also a supporter and expert advisor to SAP's sales force in order to generate new customer business in the area of data science.

A Data Scientist working in development is responsible for work packages related to Data Mining topics or acts as a key contributor. The data scientist is responsible for specifying and designing data mining methods and integrating or implementing these into products and maintains responsibility for creating prototypes and work closely with the engineering team to deliver them as features into the product. Is responsible for evaluating and defining test strategies for delivering high quality product features / capabilities of the product. Evaluates and tests data mining methods and maintains a high level of quality. A Data Scientist creates data definitions and contributes to data storage infrastructure for data mining purposes and to Data Mining architectures. Resolves data mining performance issues and monitors data mining system performance and implements efficiency improvements. Implements data mining algorithms if required. Works closely with product management, application developers, Information developers and end users.

A Data Scientist working in research projects leads small project teams of researchers or participates in such projects as key contributor. In this role the Data Scientist is performing 
functional and empirical analysis on data mining topics. Conducts research on data mining tools and algorithms, implements prototypes and data mining algorithms and validates them on real data. Creates best practices for data mining topics and collaborates with development, universities and research institutes.

 

Education and Qualifications/Skills and Competencies: 
Bachelor’s degree or foreign equivalent in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, Information Management or a related field and 5 years of progressive experience in the job offered or related occupation. Employer will also accept a Master’s degree or foreign equivalent in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, Information Management or a related field and 2 years of experience in the job offered or related occupation.

 

Work Experience: 
Experience must involve 2 years in each of the following: Database skills, including SQL and HANA; Python and R for machine learning; Text Analysis (NLP) in Python; Designing, implementing and evaluating a quantitative and qualitative research plan to meet research goals; Data visualization skills, including Tableau and PowerBI; Qualtrics for implementing research and visualizing data; A/B Testing, including ability to design and implement A/B tests to answer research goals; and Statistical skills (probability and empirical data analysis) to derive insights from data.
