What You'll Build
Build Europe's sovereign cloud infrastructure through open source at SAP, with a focus on network automation. You'll contribute to the ApeiroRA Reference Architecture within the EU's IPCEI-CIS initiative, developing Kubernetes operators and controllers that automate network provisioning and orchestration across European cloud providers.
Your work involves building systems that bridge cloud-native platforms with physical and virtual network infrastructure. You'll automate network configuration, lifecycle management, and integration across multiple environments using technologies like Kubernetes operators, Go, and modern network APIs—solving problems that eliminate vendor lock-in and enable seamless workload portability.
Working within the Linux Foundation's NeoNephos ecosystem, you'll collaborate with engineers from leading European tech companies and contribute to widely-adopted open source projects. At SAP, you'll grow your expertise in cloud-native technologies and network automation while building infrastructure that ensures European organizations control their digital destiny.
You will contribute to building a sovereign, privacy-first AI cloud for the European market that makes it easy to securely train, fine-tune, and deploy foundation and domain models with strict data residency and isolation.

What You Bring
•    Programming Mastery: Strong experience developing in Go or Python, with a solid understanding of concurrent programming, APIs, and distributed systems design
•    Kubernetes and/or Openstack expertise:
o    Kubernetes (satisfies requirement): Hands-on experience operating and developing for Kubernetes in production (cluster management, workload orchestration, and debugging distributed applications); CKA/CKAD/CKS and experience building Kubernetes operators/controllers are strong pluses.
o    OpenStack (satisfies requirement): Strong OpenStack development/operations background (e.g., Nova/Neutron/Octavia/Cinder/Keystone, networking/storage troubleshooting, upgrades/automation); experience integrating with Kubernetes is a plus. Hands-on experience deploying, tuning, and operating Ceph in production, ideally as storage backends for OpenStack services.
•    Cloud-Native Ecosystem: Familiarity with the broader CNCF landscape (Helm, Prometheus, Flux, Istio, etc.), Linux fundamentals, and container networking
•    Cloud Expertise: Familiarity with at least one of the multiple major cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP), including advanced features and best practices
•    Advanced Development Practices: Expertise in Git workflows, end-to-end CI/CD pipelines, and extensive experience with test-driven development and code reviews
•    Growth Mindset: 5+ years of software development experience, with proven adaptability and a strong focus on continuous learning, especially in distributed systems
•    Collaboration Skills: Excellent communication abilities and extensive experience leading agile development teams, fostering a culture of collaboration and mentorship
•    Open-Source Contribution: Strong enthusiasm for contributing to open-source projects
•    Security and Compliance: Awareness of industry standards related to security and compliance and experience integrating regulatory requirements into architectural patterns
•    Cultural Adaptability: Experience working across cultures and languages with strong communication skills for diverse, distributed teams
•    Soft skills: Excellent presentation, communication and problem-solving skills, have a thorough way of working with accuracy, take proactive initiatives, self-dependent and structured mode of working, high level of commitment and reliability, ready to work in a constantly changing, floating environment, fun working in a multinational team
