About the team:
It is certainly no exaggeration to say that humanity is facing one of its greatest challenges ever. The Brundtland report already postulated in the 80s of the last century, the principle of sustainability as the most important goal of mankind. This principle is nothing other than a paradigm shift away from resource-consuming to resource-conserving economic activities. Even if not all the nations of this world are pursuing this paradigm shift at the same pace and with the same high priority, it is irreversible. Europe has set itself the goal of being a pioneer in this development and has, among other things, adopted the Sustainable Finance Action Plan. It envisages making Europe the first climate-neutral continent in the world, latest 2050. This goal is to be achieved, by diverting private and public capital into sustainable investments.
To be able to set this transformation in motion, it was necessary to adopt a science-based set of rules that differentiates between sustainable and non-sustainable economic activity. This key function is fulfilled by the EU taxonomy that has been in force since June 2020.

The central question remains: How can companies support the economic transformation towards climate-neutrality with these regulations on the one hand and, on the other hand, participate in incentives associated with sustainable action, while continuously striving for joint profitability and innovation?

Taxonomy-relevant data is mapped and managed in the SAP standard architecture. We currently see the challenge in the fact that the assessment process prescribed by the taxonomy makes the use of standard software more difficult. This then also makes it difficult to identify the capex, opex and revenue metrics required by the EU taxonomy. However, as a leader in the digital business, we believe that we can solve the taxonomy requirements with our industry solutions and technology capabilities, if we better understand how customers intend to apply the taxonomy.
Together with a customer, we therefore want to conduct a concept study with the goal of describing and developing a prototype that covers the entire life cycle of a taxonomy-compliant sustainability projects.
