Position title: SAP iXp Intern - AI Platform Engineering- DevEx, laC, & LLMOps
Location: Hybrid - Newport Beach
Expected start date to end date: February 2026 - February 2027
Working hours: Part time - Full time 20 - 40 hrs./week
Now more than ever, engineering organizations need to operate cloud infrastructure and AI-powered systems faster, safer, and with far less manual effort. To support this, our Platform Engineering / DevOps organization is investing in Generative AI, Infrastructure-as-Code (IaC), Infrastructure-as-Data (IaD), and Developer Experience (DevEx) to modernize how infrastructure and operations are built and managed.
Taking a platform-first, automation-driven approach, this team focuses on building cloud-native, AI-assisted tooling that accelerates infrastructure migration, reduces operational toil, and helps engineers work smarter and faster. This role offers senior interns the opportunity to work on real, production-adjacent systems at the intersection of GenAI, Kubernetes, DevOps, and LLMOps.
What You’ll Bring
We’re looking for someone who takes initiative, perseveres, and stays curious. You like to work on meaningful innovative projects and are energized by lifelong learning.
- Eligibility: Must be currently enrolled, or recently graduated (start date must be within 6 months of graduation date) from a coding academy/bootcamp, apprenticeship, associate, bachelor’s, master’s or JD/PhD program
As a AI Platform Engineering Intern, you will be involved in all stages of building and delivering AI-powered DevOps and platform tooling: problem discovery, design, prototyping, implementation, validation, and iteration.
You may spend one day working with DevOps or SRE engineers to identify high-friction operational workflows, the next designing an AI-assisted migration or developer experience solution, and then implementing automation or agents that integrate directly into existing infrastructure pipelines. You will work hands-on with cloud infrastructure, Kubernetes-based platforms, and GenAI systems to solve real engineering problems.
Key responsibilities include:
- Designing and building Generative AI–powered tools or agents that:
- Generate, refactor, and validate Infrastructure-as-Code (e.g., Terraform, Helm, Crossplane)
- Assist with Infrastructure-as-Data (IaD) migrations by transforming configs, scripts, and runbooks into structured, declarative formats
- Act as developer or operational copilots for infrastructure and DevOps workflows
- Applying LLMOps / MLOps best practices, including:
- Prompt and workflow versioning
- Structured outputs and validation
- Evaluation, guardrails, fallback strategies, and cost/latency awareness
- Working hands-on with:
- Kubernetes, Helm, and cloud-native orchestration patterns
- Azure Cloud platform
- Building Developer Experience (DevEx) tooling such as:
- AI-assisted CLIs, internal portals, or chat-based tools
- “Golden path” workflows for infrastructure provisioning, deployment, or operations
- Self-service abstractions that reduce cognitive load while preserving safety
- Collaborating closely with DevOps, SRE, platform, and application engineers to:
- Validate AI-generated outputs against production standards
- Deliver production-quality code, automation, and documentation

- Prompt or model versioning
- Evaluation and quality measurement
- Deployment, monitoring, and rollback strategies
- Evidence of this experience through internships, research projects, open-source contributions, or substantial personal projects (e.g., GitHub repositories or demos)
- Infrastructure & Automation
- Strong understanding of Infrastructure-as-Code / Infrastructure-as-Data principles, including:
- Declarative infrastructure
- Idempotency, reconciliation loops, and drift detection
