About the Role:
The Senior Project Manager is a critical member of the Delivery Success team within the SAP CS&D ANZ business and integral to the successful delivery of SAP cloud projects. The Senior Project Manager is: -
- Responsible for delivery of SAP Cloud projects throughout all stages of the delivery lifecycle
- A trusted partner for our customers, partners, and internal leadership and key stakeholders
- Responsible for communicating and coordinating with employees at all levels of the organization including senior management, and consultants and vendor resources
- Drives the establishment of plans, schedules, tasks, as well as identifying risks, determining mitigations and contingencies, and reporting the status of projects, plus other project management activities.
- Provides leadership and drives the delivery of project outcomes as defined in the relevant contractual documents
- Supports the development of mutually agreed customer success criteria for the project engagements and supports the agreed governance framework to ensure all quality outcomes achieved
- Delivers successful outcomes as per the agreed commercial framework, SAP delivery methodology, relevant project management standards and tools which includes SAP Activate, SAP Rise Methodology, Clean Core principles and utilises the integrated tool chain
- Delivers projects and engagements in line with KPIs, Revenue Targets and Margin expectations
Additionally, the role works across matrixed CS&D teams to support the delivery of seamless customer experience and delivery success across the wider services and support portfolio including Preferred Success, Cloud Application Services, Training & Adoption, Sovereign Cloud Delivery, Enterprise Cloud Services Delivery, Product and Cloud Infrastructure Support
Under direction, the role may work closely with the partner ecosystem and the SAP Partner Management and Engagement Success Organisations to support partner-led projects apply the RISE with SAP methodology and integrated toolchain solutions, and successfully deliver the expected customer outcomes.
The role also consists of participation during the Bid Phase of the customer engagement by providing input into customer proposals especially in the areas of project structure, organization, scoping, estimation, and risk assessment.

Key Responsibilities:
Excellent facilitation and communication skills are essential, as is the ability to effectively engage with executive stakeholders, partners, and SAP account teams. Other key competencies of this role include the ability to:
- Sales Support and Opportunity Management
- Assist with defining the project scope, schedule (including dependencies and integration components), resourcing, effort estimations and risk assessment
- Ensure appropriate methodologies are incorporated, including usage of SAP tools and accelerators, tailored to Customer needs to commercial documents
- Contribute to Project Proposal Reviews conducted with the customer by advocating the project delivery plan and Cloud Project Delivery approach
- Cloud Project Delivery
- Ensure effective execution of all Project management activities (planning, monitoring, and controlling), including:
- Project planning: WBS, deliverables, dependencies, owners, due dates, links to other related plans
- Project resource planning and management
- Work with Project Managers and Resource Managers to define the Project team structure
- Review SoWs for 3rd Parties and sub-contracting entities
- Optimize the use of nearshore and offshore delivery by SAP and its partners to achieve cost advantages for the customer and for SAP.
- Project financial planning and management, ensuring a complete and accurate view is available on request, covering actual data from start to date, and forecast date until Project completion.
- Collaborate with technical and functional consultants to develop detailed project plans to deliver customer outcomes
- Scope management covering full scope definition against the original Statement of Work (or initial Project scope), incorporating the Project Change Management Process records.
- Manage RAID (Risks, Assumptions, Issues, Dependencies) log/processes and conduct regular RAID Review meetings, documenting decisions, actions and outcomes.
- Anticipate the required course of action to proactively manage operational and business risks to the project
- Manage the Project deliverable reviews and approval processes, within stated contractual timeline, recording of Minutes of reviews and related approvals.
- Work closely with Project Sponsors and Project Review Boards to facilitate timely decisions necessary for Project delivery.
- Manage escalations and take accountability for the de-escalation process, coordinating recovery activities, negotiations, and stakeholder’s engagement as necessary
- On delivery of Project milestones and on completion of the Project, ensure timely appropriate Customer sign-off is achieved, particularly on Contractual Deliverables as stated in the SoW.
- Ensure lessons learnt are captured and feedback provided to appropriate stakeholders.
- Ensure knowledge transfer to the subsequent owner in life cycle has occurred to support efficient operations
- Celebrate Project success with teams, using SAP Awards practices, internal communication to the region and to the team leadership.
- Governance & Reporting
- Maintain a clear vision of the Project
- Ensure all Project activities are performed in accordance with SAP Methodology, Quality Standards, Reporting and Governance frameworks.
- Prepare and submit Project progress reporting at regular intervals to the Customer as input to project governance.
- Build trusting and efficient working relationship with the Customer and 3rd party stakeholders
- Ensure governance forums are operationalized and recorded as per governance model, including Project Management meetings and Steering Committee meetings.
- Comply with SAP internal financial processes for projects
- Coordinate and effectively communicate with other SAP and Customer stakeholders and Project team members to ensure consistent alignment with broader account plans and business strategy.
- Work towards achieving strong Customer’s C-level relationships on strategic accounts and becoming a trusted advisor.
- On a Continuous Basis:
- Maintain awareness of the SAP and CS&D strategy in terms of transformation initiatives, RISE methodology, tools, delivery strategy and promote the understanding and adoption within the Project or Program.
- Lead by example, coach Team Leads and other team members.
- Maintain up-to-date records of mandatory training.
- Maintain awareness of certification related literature, such as the Project Management Body Of Knowledge (PMBOK), driven by the Project Manager Institute (PMI).
- Contribute actively to the ANZ Delivery Success team to leverage best practices, share lessons from Projects, and contribute to developing the Project Manager function.
- Participate in the development of Project management best practices, examples, templates and SAP’s Project Management Methodology.
- Maintain a comprehensive understanding of SAP solutions and of the CS&D business processes and functions.
Qualifications and Experience:
- 5 – 7 years of project management experience in the delivery of medium to large scale cloud projects
- Experience with SAP and SAP Cloud products is preferred including but not limited to SAP SuccessFactors and S4/HANA
- Experience working for and delivering projects within government agencies and/or organizations is highly preferred
- Experience delivering in parallel across multiple customer cloud projects and/or SAP products at any one time
- Project management and leadership skills for managing projects and cross-functional project teams
- Expertise in creating and maintaining project deliverables such as, project charter, project management plan, status reports, project timesheets, communications plan, budget, and schedule.
- Demonstrated experience in managing issues, scope and quality while bring projects to successful completion within the cost and time requirements
- Ability to identify risks, anticipate challenges and seek to proactively head-off obstacles with mitigations and contingencies
- Excellent communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skills
- Experience working in a high-level collaborative environment and promoting a teamwork mentality
- Problem-solving and decision-making skills
- Strong written and verbal communication skills to coordinate with team members and management and explain technical issues
- Analytical and problem-solving skills to handle any issues that occur during project completion

- Organizational and time management skills, and high degree of attention to details
- Experience mentoring, and coaching people on project management methodologies
- Ability to identify risks, anticipate challenges and seek to proactively head-off obstacles with mitigations and contingencies
- Management of remote resources (global delivery or distributed organization)
- Cultural awareness and experience working across different cultures and nationalities
- Project management certifications such as the Project Management Professional (PMP) Certification from the Project Management Institute, or equivalent.
- Knowledge of various project management methodologies (e.g., waterfall, agile, scrum)
