What you will do
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
As a Chief Development Architect in the SAP Business Network CTO office, you will be part of a team driving the overall technology strategy, architecture quality, cloud scale readiness and our AI-First and Suite-First initiatives.
Specific responsibilities include:
- Driving an aligned and consistent architecture strategy and the execution of that strategy for Next Generation applications. Key topics could include architecture for scalability, resilience, stability, and security in the cloud.
- Creating architecture concepts and driving their implementation.
- Developing prototypes as proof-of-concept for technical decisions.
- Evaluating architecture risks and estimating effort for business cases, preparing senior management decisions, advising senior management and Business Owners regarding technical feasibility and architectural implications.
- Organizing collaborative architecture work across teams which may include guiding complex cross-functional and end-to-end technology initiatives.
- Advising design sprint phases with involved team leads of product and implementation teams.
- Driving continuous improvement and innovations in development processes, methodologies, architectures, and technology.
- Exploring new technology evaluation, evaluating their viability for our use cases, trade-offs, and surfacing options for decision.
- Guide engineers while giving them space to learn and grow.
- Support customer and partners and provide solution architectures and input to enterprise architecture.
- Drive an innovation agenda by staying up to date on technology trends like AI.
- Strong participation and scaling technical leadership in local architecture communities of practice.
What you will bring
The successful candidate for the Chief Development Architect will bring the following experience and attributes:
- Passionate about technology and architecture excellence.
- Defining, aligning, and creating architectures and assist product managers and engineering leaders in implementation roadmaps.
- Distributed system and database design.
- Microservices architecture style experience and competency in best practices. Ex. Domain Driven Design, Communication Patterns, CI/CD.
- Proven ability to work in an Agile and DevOps culture.
- Familiar with one of the major cloud providers
- Executive Presence – Very strong technical communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills at the executive level. Strong oral and written English language skills.
- Team-Oriented - Ability to work independently as well as in a team-oriented, collaborative fashion with stakeholders across all org units. Proven track record of successfully leading diverse teams.
- Vision – Ability to look at the bigger picture and act as an owner and evangelist for strategic topics. Curious mindset and innovative thinking with the ability to continuously lean and easily move into new topics.
- Results-Oriented – Demonstrated ownership, integrity, will to achieve, and other leadership skills required to consistently deliver outcomes aligned with business objectives within aligned milestones.
Preferred skills and experience
Experience in data science or data engineering
- Knowledge about the SAP Business Technology Platform is preferred, but not required
- Experience scaling databases on cloud infrastructure
- Hands-on DevOps experience with Kubernetes
- Familiar with big data and machine learning architectures and platforms.
Education requirements: Master's degree in computer science or equivalent.
Language requirements: Fluency in English, other languages are a plus. Ex. German

Compensation Range Transparency: SAP believes the value of pay transparency contributes towards an honest and supportive culture and is a significant step toward demonstrating SAP’s commitment to pay equity. SAP provides the annualized compensation range inclusive of base salary and variable incentive target for the career level applicable to the posted role. The targeted combined range for this position is 263800 - 609200(USD) USD. The actual amount to be offered to the successful candidate will be within that range, dependent upon the key aspects of each case which may include education, skills, experience, scope of the role, location, etc. as determined through the selection process. Any SAP variable incentive includes a targeted dollar amount and any actual payout amount is dependent on company and personal performance.
