About the team

We are the Technology Innovation & Strategy team part of HXM Transformation Engineering that works on some of the most exciting, challenging, and innovative technologies (Cloud computing, Automated CI/CD, Kubernetes, Docker, GCP, AWS, Azure, Machine Learning / AI, Security, SAP HANA etc.) to help effect changes across the technology spectrum to solve the most important business problems at SAP SuccessFactors. We provide thought leadership on some of the most challenging and important problems and are currently focused on enablement of Containers/K8s and Modernization of CI/CD as part of Cloud Native Transformation of SAP SuccessFactors.

 

The Technology Innovation & Strategy team is a high-performance team marked by boldness and an appetite for innovation and productivity. We are looking for an Engineering Manager that will lead our Dynamic Engineering  Environments Team comprised of a group of talented engineers focused on Innovative enablement of Highly Stable, Ephemeral Engineering Test Environments using DevOps technologies including Containers/K8s and Cloud Native Technologies.

 

What you’ll do

The team you will manage is responsible to offer internal ephemeral Engineering Test environments for testing purposes and to ensure that all features and functions, provided by engineering, will be certified to be fully operational, stable, performant and scalable before being released to the productive data centers around the globe.  Providing stable test environments are key enablers for the organization to provide new features and functions to our customers.

 

  • You and your team will be building an industry-changing, innovative, and intuitive suite of solutions to Automate building, monitoring and daily operation of Highly Stable K8s based Engineering Environments
  • You will do this by working closely with the team of Engineers on a daily basis with clear and intense focus on keeping customers (Engineering teams) delighted
  • You should be able to adapt easily to meet the needs of rapidly evolving business environment.
  • You will work in a dynamic environment, integrating multiple scalable, reliable, and secure platforms into several products.

Responsibilities

 

  • Set the technical vision and strategy for enhancing stability of Environments, Monitoring, Observability and Visibility. 
  • Make independent decisions on architectural problems and methods; contributes to the development of new or improved architectural techniques 
  • Work and communicate with cross-functional teams – technology, business and operations to manage multiple projects
  • Own complete software development lifecycle – designing, leading implementation and testing / automation of new features within a fast paced, agile environment
  • Ensure the delivery of quality releases; define and execute against project plans and delivery commitments; Manage day-to-day activities of the engineering team
  • Motivate and develop a highly engaged and excellent engineering culture in the team
  • Mentor and Coach Engineers in your team to help build a strong team

 

Skills & Competencies

  • Proven success building, motivating and retaining high-performance engineering teams
  • Prior success as a software engineer, subject matter expert, and strategic influencer on the direction of the product design and development
  • History of leading engineering cultural change including CI/CD, Microservices or API first development
  • Manage discreet DevOps Engineering teams to meet the needs of business needs at the appropriate levels of sourcing
  • Strong computer science fundamentals, data structures, and algorithms.
  • Strong Experience with Containers, Kubernetes, CI/CD, GitOps principles, Operational Stability, Visibility.
  • Strong development management experience in building modem cutting edge software that performs and scales in cloud environment
  • In-depth knowledge of build/release systems, Jenkins, ArgoCD, Git.
  • In-depth knowledge of Operational Visibility aspects such as APM, Metrics, KPIs, Alerts, Logging, monitoring tools like Prometheus, Grafana, Elastic APM, DynaTrace.
  • Hands on experience with one or more languages: Java, Python, GoLang.
  • Periodic performance profiling and capacity planning of critical systems and identify hotspots and recommend improvements
  • Working knowledge of Scrum, Test Driven Development and passionate about unit test, integrity testing, stress testing and performance testing and test automation 
  • Exposure to building, deploying large scale applications on public cloud like GC, AWS, AZURE etc.
  • Sound knowledge in Object Oriented Programming Principles, Design Patterns and Software Architecture, especially in new age Cloud solutions
  • Capable of creating High level and low-level design document 
  • Experience building highly scalable, maintainable, robust, and fault-tolerant services.
  • Experience with scalable solutions using cloud native technologies, event-based, or pub/sub technologies (Kafka, Zookeeper, Redis / Elastic Cache) 
  • Ability to quickly learn new and existing technologies.

 

Work Experience & Qualifications

  • 8+ years of increasing Management responsibility roles in a fast-moving technology organization.
  • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills and influencing abilities, paired with strong team leadership.
  • Willingness to take responsibility, accountability, ownership and drive business outcomes.
  • Bachelor’s in Computer Science required, Master preferred.
