The Pittsburgh Supply Chain Management team caters to innovations across product areas like Inventory Optimization (IBP for Inventory) and Demand Sensing (IBP for Demand).

As a Senior Developer on the IBP team, you will be working on the development of SAP’s leading solution for Supply Chain Planning in the Cloud based on HANA. SAP has been the market leader in Enterprise Software for more than 40 years. Today, innovation continues to flourish at SAP with HANA in Memory Database at the core of the next generation of Enterprise Applications. The main focus of the position is the support of the IBP Platform in secure clouds, which may require debugging any part of the platform and communicating with other teams responsible of the development of the modules in question. However, it also extends to the development of other modules that are also developed by our local teams in Pittsburgh like IBP for Inventory, Demand Sensing or Demand Driven Supply Network.

  • Supports the IBP platform installations in a Secure Cloud
  • Communicates with other development teams across the world providing examples and reproducing problems to find resolution to issues that occurred in the Secure Cloud
  • Works in a cross-functional implementation team and is responsible for development focusing on design, coding, testing and quality assurance of complex product features using ABAP, SAP GUI, ABAP Eclipse Development, AMDPs, HANA, HANA Studio, SQL Script, etc.
  • Resolves complex issues within own area of expertise and supports others in resolving issues
  • Shows initiative and drives topics to resolution in a high level of quality, speed, reliability and efficiency
  • Works closely together with others and shares expertise to ensure product success
  • Constantly improves own work methods to gain state-of-the-art agile software engineering skills.  Enhances skills beyond own core functional focus and works on other tasks for the benefit of the team
  • Has advanced overall product and technical knowledge and shares expertise within and across team and organization
  • Has advanced knowledge of development and testing processes and product standards
  • Works independently and designs solutions which may enhance future design within own domain expertise
  • Analyzes, defines, implements and executes quality and test related activities according this quality- and test strategy
  • Writes unit tests for own code using AUNIT and reviews unit tests of colleagues in the team to ensure good coverage
  • Creates a detailed test design incl. test system landscape definition and product standards, prepares tests (customizing & master data), authors and executes manual and/or automated tests
  • Analyzes test results and takes appropriate follow-up actions
  • Coaches teams in terms of development, quality assurance and test related processes, methods and tools.
  • Initiates process or tool improvements
  • Constantly improves and attaining agile software engineering skills
  • Has proficient product domain knowledge incl. relevant business processes & scenarios and a proficient understanding of customer needs
  • Has advanced knowledge about relevant product and process standards, important legal requirements as well as quality assurance and test related tools
  • Has proficient knowledge and technical competencies of relevant programming languages and related development tools and processes.
  • Collaborates with user experience experts and able to assess and improve desirability of user interaction design of complex product features.
  • Leads (or co-leads with PO/APO) - customer interaction activities (conference calls, on-site sessions, escalations, presentations) for complex product features.
  • Shares knowledge and helps grow the capabilities of the team through presentations, mentoring, and coaching in your implementation team and product area.
  • Documents code and test results
  • Documents root cause analysis, workarounds and solutions on internal and customer incidents
  • Supports, provides maintenance and bug fixes on assigned IBP modules in customer installations
  • Analyzes and improve performance in the execution of the assigned IBP modules
  • Analyzes and debugs code from other parts of the IBP Platform that directly or indirectly affect, create issues or degrade performance in the assigned IBP modules. Communicates with other IBP teams responsible for those other modules for the effective resolution of any issues


  • Candidate must be a U.S. Citizen
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related Engineering field
  • Experience working with Databases, SQL and a programming with Database Scripting Languages like SQL Script
  • Experience building and running Machine Learning (ML) models or experience in Supply Chain Management required
  • Experience writing complex queries and tuning them for performance

  • Understanding of Object-Oriented Programming and its fundamental principles
  • Working experience developing software with an OO Language
  • Working experience writing Unit Test
  • Experience working in a SCRUM team
  • Analytical Thinking and Problem-Solving abilities expressing solutions in code
  • Process and detailed oriented
  • Self-motivated working attitude
  • Ability and desire to learn new technologies and skills, specifically SAP related technology like HANA and ABAP
  • Ability to communicate well within a diverse team and with other teams around the globe
  • Flexibility and ability to adapt quickly to changes
  • Experience debugging, diagnosing and fixing issues in own and others' code
  • Skills working with HANA and writing SQL Script
  • Programming skills in ABAP, OO development in ABAP and SAP technologies
  • Experience working with Web Services, specifically ODATA
  • Experience and skills developing in Java and JavaScript is a plus
