PURPOSE AND OBJECTIVES

SAP is The Cloud Company powered by HANA. As a frontrunner in delivering a reliable Cloud offering, our Development organization has the responsibility not only for development but also for the successful operations of our services.

We are running a Service Engineering Team in our organization that shall proactively drive continuous improvement of the whole productive landscape and actively participate in problem investigations. With their broad technical knowledge about the infrastructure, the services and the platform, they are able to solve incidents, drive and implement automation and develop central tools.

The mission of the team is to provide, protect and improve the software and systems behind productive services on SAP Cloud Platform (SAP CP) with an ever-watchful eye on their availability, performance, and capacity.

We are looking for experienced software support engineer to join our Service Engineering team responsible for the availability and support of Cloud Foundry Services on SAP Cloud Platform.

EXPECTATIONS AND TASKS

As a Cloud Support Engineer in the SAP CP Service Engineering Team you will have the opportunity to operate, support and tackle complex problems, analyze performance issues, proactively monitor the service behavior and identify areas for improvement, develop tools for monitoring and troubleshooting cloud services built on latest open source and SAP technologies.

Responsibilities:

  • Close collaboration with development teams
  • Learn new technologies
  • Work in an international environment
  • Perform in-depth troubleshooting and reading system logs to identify and solve complex support issues
  • Provide timely and effective resolution to support requests based on internal and external service level agreements (SLA)
  • Provide ongoing, regular updates to customers to keep them apprised of progress toward problem resolution
  • Work with the development teams to help them understand the outputs from Post Mortems to improve their products
  • Build infrastructure and platform monitoring by gathering system metrics and implement tools for recoveries
  • Troubleshoot availability/performance problems and build software-based solutions to prevent recurrences.
  • Participate in the weekend and overnight on-call rotation

SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES

           Required skills:

  • BSc degree in Computer Science or related technical field
  • Expert level experience with modern cloud architectures
  • Strong experience with debugging and profiling tools and REST APIs
  • Expertise in identifying performance bottlenecks in distributed systems
  • Advanced knowledge in Unix/Linux and operating system principles.
  • Strong experience with network architecture, e.g. TCP/IP, MAC addresses, IP packets, DNS, OSI layers and load balancing
  • Good operational knowledge of algorithms and data structures
  • Hands-on experience in operational security best practices
  • Enthusiasm for automation—make the computers do the work for you
  • Excellent communication skills – precise, based on facts
  • Working efficiently in emergency situations

Preferred skills:

  • Experience with cloud infrastructures and services, e.g. OpenStack, AWS, Azure or GCP
  • Knowledge of cloud technologies such as Cloud Foundry, Kubernetes, and various runtimes
  • Knowledge in database administration or big data
  • Understanding of networking protocols, distributed systems and container technology
  • Experience working in a multicultural, worldwide team setup

WORK EXPERIENCE

  • 5+ years of experience in the areas of software support, operations and/or development.
