SAP started in 1972 as a team of five colleagues with a desire to do something new. Together, they changed enterprise software and reinvented how business was done. Today, as a market leader in enterprise application software, we remain true to our roots. That’s why we engineer solutions to fuel innovation, foster equality and spread opportunity for our employees and customers across borders and cultures.
SAP values the entrepreneurial spirit, fostering creativity and building lasting relationships with our employees. We know that a diverse and inclusive workforce keeps us competitive and provides opportunities for all. We believe that together we can transform industries, grow economics, lift up societies and sustain our environment. Because it’s the best-run businesses that make the world run better and improve people’s lives.

At SAP.iO Venture Studio, we’re transforming the way that SAP builds new businesses. We do this by building great products with an insanely great team. We’re looking for an Entrepreneur in Residence to join our Venture Studio team.

With more than €20 billion in annual sales, SAP manages an enormous diversity of businesses. However, moving the needle inside of SAP’s dominant enterprise business requires adding more than incremental innovation – it requires the development of massively disruptive organizations.

SAP.iO Venture Studio is tasked to create those businesses, using SAP’s unique position and differentiated data sources to transform industries ranging from talent management to security. Our incubations must be big enough to move the needle at SAP, attack new market opportunities for the company, and be able to be tested through rapid iteration and constant customer feedback.

We identify promising talent and ideas, invest between $750K and $2.5M in seed stage capital, and scale the ventures over time. The startups built within SAP.iO incubation operate differently to traditional corporate business units: General Managers are entrusted with end-to-end responsibilities, teams manage to cash, and Boards provide oversight and regular guidance.

SAP.iO’s Venture Studio invests in teams through a venture-capital driven model. Teams that receive funding from us have the responsibility to independently pioneer opportunities that are big enough to move the needle at a company of SAP’s scale.

We are looking for a talented individual to manage the business operations of our Venture Studio. With tasks ranging from orchestrating board meetings for our underlying ventures to driving partnerships, negotiations, and contracting with our legal team, the Head of Operations is meant to be the leader who ensures our ventures operate as closely as possible to those in the world of independent venture capital.

  • Coordinate SAP.iO Board Meetings with senior executive board members
  • Deliver operational and strategy support to ventures
  • Collect feedback from Board Members for GM performance reviews; manage the process for compensation committee shadow equity approvals
  • Prepare quarterly reporting documents for SAP.iO’s senior stakeholders
  • Manage SAP.iO’s community events
  • Coordinate best practice sharing (inside and outside of the organization)
  • Take on operational projects at the request of the SAP.iO Leadership Team as needed

Ideal Skills

  • Initiative and Judgment: Works to influence and is proactive.  Makes good decisions based on a mixture of analysis, wisdom, experience and judgment.
  • Strong decision making:  Prioritizes the best interest of the organization and the goals of SAP over process constraints or typical and is willing to escalate troubling issues.
  • Time Management: Uses time effectively with strong multi-tasking skills.
  • Satisfaction:  Takes pride and joy from the success of the partnership and the team.
  • Confidentiality: Experienced at handling sensitive and confidential information.

  • Bachelor’s Degree required with preference for a quantitative business degree (e.g., Economics, Business, Industrial Engineering, etc.); MBA preferred.
  • Relevant professional experience with a track record of success; preference for 2-5 years of experience in management consulting or strategy; startup or VC experience a plus.
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint).  Working knowledge of SAP systems is preferred
  • Ability to deliver highest quality under deadline pressure, while juggling multiple tasks and in complex environments, strong organizational skills
