PURPOSE AND OBJECTIVES

 

This position is within the Global Accounting, Reporting & Tax department of SAP. This department reports directly to the CFO of SAP and is responsible for the completeness and accuracy of SAP’s IFRS accounting, SAP’s external integrated reporting under German and U.S. law, and all tax topics. Global Accounting, Reporting & Tax is structured into the following sub-teams: ‘Local Accounting & Reporting’, ‘Corporate Revenue Recognition’, ‘External Reporting & Accounting Technologies’, ‘Global IFRS Excellence’, and ‘Global Tax’. This position is assigned to the Corporate Revenue Recognition Team.

 

EXPECTATIONS AND TASKS

 

The job includes:

 

  • Developing, evolving, and maintaining SAP's revenue recognition guideline (IFRS 15), adding revenue accounting guidance especially because SAP constantly transforms its business; reviewing new technical accounting and reporting requirements, identifying their impact on the SAP group, and rolling out accounting updates into the organization.
  • Researching, documenting, training, and providing guidance on revenue recognition and other accounting issues related to new cloud subscription, software, and services business/pricing models to our stakeholders in GFA and other board areas concerning all 5 steps of the revenue recognition model. Working in cross-functional teams to structure new business models and contemplated transactions in light of the expected revenue accounting and external reporting requirements. Communicating and ensuring enforcement of revenue accounting requirements in new business models and contemplated transactions.
  • Engaging in proactive and positive interaction with external auditors and internal groups (e.g. Field Revenue Recognition, Sales, Legal, Development, Pricing, and Finance).
  • Assisting in implementing conceptual accounting guidance from a system and process perspective, adhering to our SOX principles.
  • Analyzing SAP’s Revenue Recognition processes, based on actual revenue data, to ensure compliance and correct application of SAP’s revenue recognition guidance.
  • Supporting the fulfillment of our qualitative and quantitative disclosure requirements of IFRS 15.

 

EDUCATION AND QUALIFICATIONS/ SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES

 

  • Thorough understanding of IFRS, particularly the revenue recognition standard IFRS 15 Revenue from Contracts with Customers.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills; assertiveness; ability to balance multiple projects in a fast-paced and rapidly changing environment.
  • Ability to concisely communicate and work in a team that supports multiple geographic regions across the globe.
  • Strong analytical and writing skills and attention to detail.
  • Strong interest in staying technically updated on aspects of accounting.
  • University degree, preferably in accounting and/or auditing.
  • CPA or similar qualification in accounting/auditing would be a plus.
  • Experience in revenue recognition and related processes in the areas of public cloud, private cloud, on-premise software, and services is a plus.
  • Very good English language skills; German is a plus.

 

WORK EXPERIENCE

 

  • At least 3 years of working experience in the area of financial accounting of a publicly listed company reporting under IFRS or an auditing company are required. Prior experience in the financial reporting group of a company is preferred.
