Intern/ Thesis/ Working Student (f/m/d) - Improve Software Fault Localization via LLM

We help the world run better

At SAP, we enable you to bring out your best. Our company culture is focused on collaboration and a shared passion to help the world run better. How? We focus every day on building the foundation for tomorrow and creating a workplace that embraces differences, values flexibility, and is aligned to our purpose-driven and future-focused work. We offer a highly collaborative, caring team environment with a strong focus on learning and development, recognition for your individual contributions, and a variety of benefit options for you to choose from.

What you'll do

SAP develops SAP HANA, a large database management system consisting of over 40 million lines of code, mainly C++.

Preventing crashes is an important aspect of quality assurance for SAP HANA. This does not only cover preventing crashes from happening at all, but also being able to quickly analyze crashes and fix them.

We work on automatizing the first step of this analysis, fault localization. That requires for example fine-tuning large language models (LLMs) conditioned on information captured by the crash. Our proof-of-concept has many avenues for further ideas and experiments to achieve better accuracy.

The student will contribute to improve our approach by evaluating different techniques, implementation, improving data sets and solving specific problems that we encounter in the context of fault localization for SAP HANA.

We provide a unique opportunity to work in a data domain not typically seen by LLMs and to apply practical LLM knowledge in a real-world scenario.
