Junior C++ Developer (f/m/d) for ABAP Data Integration

We help the world run better

At SAP, we enable you to bring out your best. Our company culture is focused on collaboration and a shared passion to help the world run better. How? We focus every day on building the foundation for tomorrow and creating a workplace that embraces differences, values flexibility, and is aligned to our purpose-driven and future-focused work. We offer a highly collaborative, caring team environment with a strong focus on learning and development, recognition for your individual contributions, and a variety of benefit options for you to choose from.

What you`ll do

S/4 HANA is the world's largest enterprise ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning) platform. It runs on the ABAP application server, a C++ application with more than 20 million lines of code, providing SAP’s own programming language ABAP, the leading programming language for business programming. The ABAP application server can run on On-Premises or in the cloud, e.g., on Kubernetes.

The ABAP Language Team is responsible for developing the ABAP programming language and surrounding infrastructure. It provides a compiler and runtime environment to compile and execute the ABAP language, and libraries to access the underlying in-memory SAP HANA database.

As many SAP customers plan to extend their existing On-Premises solutions with cloud add-ons, data integration (data federation and data replication) between non-cloud and cloud software is particularly important. This happens mostly via the ABAP SQL Service, featuring its own ABAP ODBC driver, an innovative technology which exposes the functionality of the application server via SQL. This ODBC driver uses the ABAP SQL compiler and runtime for compilation and execution.

In your work, you will enhance the ABAP SQL Service, the ABAP compiler and runtime and the ABAP ODBC driver in the areas data federation, data replication, SQL features and increased performance.

Your tasks will include:

  • Work in an agile scrum team in a very friendly atmosphere.
  • Design, implement and test features for the ABAP SQL Service, the ABAP compiler/runtime and the ABAP ODBC driver using C/C++, ABAP and potentially Rust.
  • Apply and foster agile methods like Scrum, test-driven development, and pair programming.
  • Do performance measurements with tools like Intel VTune or valgrind

What you bring

We want you to share your fresh insights and ideas actively with us to create innovative, high quality core technology components with care and attention to detail. As teamwork is essential to our daily work, you need to like working collaboratively and agree that an open and trustful communication is the foundation for your own and your team’s success.

Ideally, you have most of the following experiences and skills:

  • A good to excellent degree in computer science, mathematics, natural sciences, engineering or related fields
  • Good knowledge about object-oriented design and programming
  • Good knowledge of a systems programming language like C/C++ or Rust
  • ABAP language skills are not required, but are a plus
  • Fluent English and German language skills
  • Knowledge about database systems, SQL and relational database skills are beneficial.

Meet your team

The ABAP Language Team is a team consisting of both young and very experienced, highly motivated colleagues who are leading experts in designing and implementing programming languages, their compilers, and runtime. We live in an open culture, where everyone is safe to voice their opinions, and is heard and respected.
