Gardener is an open-source project that provides a Kubernetes-as-a-Service solution, enabling the management of Kubernetes clusters at scale. It is designed to offer a high degree of automation, flexibility, and reliability, making it easier for organizations to deploy, manage, and scale their Kubernetes environments. The Gardener Landscape Stability Team focuses on ensuring the robustness and stability of these environments, ensuring seamless operations and continuous improvement for our clusters on public cloud, hybrid or SAP owned infrastructures.

 

What you’ll do:

As an Engineer in the Gardener Landscape Stability Team, you will function as both a DevOps Engineer and Site Reliability Engineer (SRE), playing a key role in maintaining and improving the stability and performance of our Kubernetes landscapes. You will work closely with cross-functional teams to implement best practices, automate processes, and ensure the reliability of our systems.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Collaborating with development teams to ensure seamless integration and deployment of new features and updates.
  • Monitoring system performance and implementing improvements to enhance stability and cost efficiency.
  • Automating routine tasks to improve operational efficiency and reduce manual intervention, as well as improving mechanisms for landscape setups.
  • Serve as technical expert during incidents, investigate and resolve issues at a deep technical level.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve issues and participate in Support-rotations for critical systems.
  • Learn new technologies and keep up to date with latest product releases

What you bring:

  • A degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field, or equivalent work experience.
  • Understanding Kubernetes is a must.
  • Experience as a DevOps Engineer or in a similar role, with a strong understanding of Kubernetes and cloud-native technologies.
  • Proficiency in automation, scripting and programming languages like Python and Bash or Go
  • Familiarity with cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, Google Cloud or OpenStack.
  • Knowledge of tools such as Concourse, Argo CD, GitHub & GitHub Actions, Grafana, Prometheus, Prow is a plus.
  • Networking experience, Linux and security hardening procedures is a plus.
  • Enthusiasm for automation and software development in general
  • Good communication skills, both written and verbal. Proficiency in German is a bonus.
  • A passion for learning and a desire to keep up with the latest industry trends.
